September Newsletter

Happy September!

As we return from summer break, we have a few updates that we’re excited to share. Most importantly, thank you for your continued interest and support. We look forward to another fabulous year putting together our spring publication.

We’re happy to announce that submissions are now open! If you’re interested in sending us your short fiction, please reference these guidelines. We look forward to reading your work this semester. If you emailed us a story during the summer break and would still like us to consider it, please make sure to resend it now that submissions are open.

If you haven’t grabbed a copy yet, Issue 46 is back on sale here

We’re also pleased to share that BFR has submitted its 2027 PEN America nominations. We’ve chosen the following pieces from Issue 46:

  • “Mouthful of Blood” by Hannah Marriott
  • “Fruit Rots on Rotting Trees” by Ailidh Ruthven
  • “Caroline” by Nichelle Wong
  • “Cuboidal Spiral Pattern Which Extends Outward from Itself Before Curling Back Inward to Point Perpendicular-like at Itself Curling Upward” by John Shimano

Looking ahead, we have a wonderful group of staff writers whose articles will be posted on our website throughout the fall semester. We’re excited to share their work with you, and hope you send something our way soon.

Warmly,

Sigrid Madzunkova
Managing Editor
