We are delighted to announce the winners of the Berkeley Fiction Review 2025 Sudden Fiction contest! Submissions were strong this year, but our editorial staff and our guest judges, Kiyoko Shiosaki and Melanie Abrams, narrowed our selections down to a top three, plus an honorable mention:
FIRST PLACE: “Doll Parts” by Mila Ishikawa-Gonzales
SECOND PLACE: “Patrol” by Dan McGurkin
THIRD PLACE: “Fresno: Eros” by Gavin Garza
HONORABLE MENTION: “Swimming” by Charles Hawes
All four of these amazing short fiction stories will appear in Berkeley Fiction Review‘s Issue 45, which will be released Spring 2025.
